The Canova pattern was first produced in silver, about 1850 by Chawner & Co for the Great Exhibition in 1851. The pattern was based on Antonio Canova's 'Hebe', 'Sappho" and the 'Dancing Girl Reposing'. Canova was one of the greatest Italian neoclassical sculptor from the late 18th to early 19th century. This Canova was also produced in china & pottery in the 19th century
